Although Sam Hunt suggested to The Boot in a 2017 interview that music may not be the biggest priority in his life anymore, he's not out of the music game just yet: The country star behind 2017's massively popular "Body Like a Back Road" released his newest single, "Downtown's Dead," on Wednesday (May 16.) Readers can press play above to hear the track.

In the spirit of "Body Like a Back Road," the new song blends country themes with R&B, hip hop and pop flavors, with the sweeping, high-drama chorus that fans have come to expect from Hunt's hits. "Downtown's dead without you / Girls walk by and friends say hi / Friday night it might as well be / Just another Tuesday night without you," Hunt sings. "As long as you're still in my head / There ain't no way that I can paint a ghost town red / Downtown's dead."

Hunt co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Zach Crowell -- the trio that also helped him write "Body Like a Back Road" -- along with hip hop songwriter Charlie Handsome. It seems fitting that Hunt would collaborate with writers outside of the country format: Since his career's outset, he has taken a genre-bending approach to his music.

Clearly, Hunt is doing something right. His debut album Montevalloscored a generous handful of hits that includes "Take Your Time," "House Party," "Leave the Night On" and "Break Up in a Small Town." He already had a multi-platinum album, a roster of hits and a gigantic fanbase before releasing "Body Like a Back Road," which spent a record-breaking 25 consecutive weeks at the top of the chart.
