Cat Rescued After Spending 650 Days in East Texas Shelter
(KNUE-FM) If you are a pet owner here in Texas you most likely understand the joy that comes with having an animal that shows you unconditional love. Seeing my dogs after a long workday help eliminate some of the stress. And recently there was one cat that had been waiting for almost two years in an East Texas animal shelter that was just recently adopted.
Why Hester Was in the Shelter So Long
The cat named Hester had been the longest cat resident at County Roads Rescue in Cherokee County according to CBS 19, he was waiting for almost two years before his family showed up to take him home.
So often when people adopt an animal, they look for something special or exotic. Unfortunately, that wasn’t Hester. There wasn’t anything special, except the fact that he was born at the rescue as his mother had already been rescued.

Hester’s Adoption Moment
Local resident Brandy and her daughter Abigail didn’t want a special cat, but they did notice that Hester had been waiting a long time to find a home. After losing their dog of 11 years, they decided that Hester would be the next animal that they brought home!
They wanted to rescue a cat who had waited the longest.
Sampson Finds a Home, Too
Hester now has a full day of snuggles and playtime that he is getting used to but don’t worry he isn’t alone. As the adopting family also decided to take home Hester’s brother named Sampson.
