Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will debut on HBO at 9 PM, Monday, May 4th. A documentary filmed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Brett Morgen, gives an intimate look into Cobain's life.

According to HBO's official synopsis, Morgen worked closely with Kurt Cobain's family on the project. His daughter, Francis Bean, is the executive producer. This documentary is the first of its kind about Cobain to made in cooperation with his family.

According to a Billboard Magazine article following the Tribeca Film Festival release, Morgen and Love discussed the film. Moderator Neil Straus asked Cobain's widow Courtney Love how she felt after seeing the film for a fourth time she, "replied 'Guilt.' Love added that she found herself wondering what "I could have done" to prevent Cobain's suicide, at the age of 27, in 1994."

Morgen was given unprecedented access to Cobain's journals, tapes and recordings. What he discovered in the foot locker has led to this impressive documentary, which I'm eagerly waiting to see on May 4th.

“I thought I was going to meet a rock star who got tired of his fame, because that’s the narrative that has settled around him,” Mr. Morgen said. As he dug deeper, “a character started to emerge who I had never met before.” Yes, the romanticized rock-god misery was there: the unwanted spokesman-for-a-generation pressure, the disturbing art and journals, the horrific heroin spiral. “But there was also this loving and funny and warm guy who enjoyed parts of his life,” Mr. Morgen said.

The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and will open in limited theatrical release Friday before it's HBO debut.
