Lufkin Officer Arrested Over Alleged Flock Camera Misuse

An East Texas officer was arrested for alleged misuse of Flock cameras. Lufkin Police officer Zach Klein was arrested by Texas Rangers last Thursday morning on charges of abuse of official capacity and tampering with a government record. Klein has been with the police force for 11 years, and since this incident the department has suspended the use of Flock cameras within the department.

Another Lufkin Officer Is Also on Administrative Leave

According to KETK, there is a second officer who has not been named publicly that is also on administrative leave pending the investigation into his use of Flock cameras.

Flock cameras have been a hot topic as of late and there is even a group in Tyler called DeFlock Tyler that says this technology has the potential for abuse of power and a lack of transparency connected to the cameras. The big debate is whether these cameras are to assist law enforcement or if they are an invasion of privacy for all citizens.

Flock Cameras Have Also Helped Solve East Texas Cases

Less than two weeks ago it was reported that the Sabine County sheriff's office used the technology to track down a suspect who took a child across state lines. The cameras assisted with reuniting the child to her parents.

The Lufkin investigation remains ongoing and no other information about the case is available at this time.

Flock Safety Says It's Tightening Its Policies

The CEO and founder of Flock Safety, Garrett Langley said the company is now tightening its policies, including limiting how long information can be stored and expanding search oversight.
