(KNUE-FM) Going on a cruise can be a lot of fun, there are millions of people that set sail leaving Texas and stopping in Mexico, but there is a new fee you will be paying soon if you’re one of those passengers.

According to KXAN, there is a new cruise-ship passenger fee for anyone arriving at a Mexican port.

The Fee Isn’t Much But It Will Increase Over Time

The new fee will begin on July 1, 2025.

Although it’s not going to break the bank as it’s only $5, at least for now.

This is a decision that was agreed upon by the Mexican government and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association.

Six months ago, the Mexican government wanted to implement a $42 fee per passenger, but after complaints the fee was decreased.

The fee will increase over the next three years, increasing to $21 per passenger.

The Fee Will be Paid by the Cruise Line

Visitors will not need to pay the fee directly to the Mexican government as it will be added to the cost of the cruise.

So, while it might not be a big increase, you can expect cruise prices to increase slightly as companies will be passing that fee on to customers.

This Will Create a Lot of Money

There are approximately 3,300 cruise ships expected to stop in Mexican posts this year, that will bring around 10 million passengers.

That is a lot of money that will be collected by the Mexican government over this new fee being imposed.
