For almost 15 years, retired Marine John Harkness collected toys for the Marines Toys for Tots inside a Walmart in Medina, Ohio.

But this year, he was asked to step outside.

A new manager has taken over the store, and by Walmart policy, charity organizations are not allowed to collect inside a store as part of their no soliciting policy.

A photo was posted on Facebook of Harkness standing outside with the caption, "He can bleed and die, but he can't stand inside." The post became viral and so did the outrage, with some calling for a boycott of Walmart.

In 2000, Walmart changed their policy that did not allow charities or charity drop boxes to be inside a store.

Walmart has said that if Harkness was allowed to collect inside the store, the former manager had broken policy.
