It can be said that Tyler has a traffic problem! Some areas of town are more worse than others, though. One of the worst areas, in my opinion, is Old Jacksonville Highway (FM 2493). Traffic along this road has increased exponentially with the addition of many businesses, restaurants and Three Lakes Middle School, not to mention the residential growth. A few years ago a stretch of FM 2493 was expanded from two lanes to five lanes from Grande Blvd. in Tyler to FM 2813 in Gresham, and now at times it seems like it's still a two lane road!

The Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is inviting the public to attend a special open house event on Thursday, Sept. 24 asking for the public's input on Old Jacksonville Highway.

The Tyler Area MPO will be studying the stretch of road from Highway 69 in Bullard north to Loop 323 in Tyler. They'll be analyzing all aspects of traffic, including number of lanes, signals and other upgrade recommendations.

Residents and business owners will be able to talk with engineers and staff members and will be able to see some short term recommendations as well as leaving comments on the project, too.

The special open house will be held at Southside Baptist Church at 8875 Old Jacksonville Highway from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. For more details you may contact the Tyler Area MPO at 903-531-1175 or at their website.
