Plano, Texas Man Convicted of Killing His Sister to Collect Money After Mom Died
This horribly sad case sounds like something you would see covered on Dateline NBC or another crime show but the difficult details are very real. Blake Richards, 30, of Plano, Texas has now been sentenced to life in prison after murdering his sister and her boyfriend in 2021.
The details coming from the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office on how things progressed from family issues to murder. It was October 27th when a call came into 911 from Blake’s best friend saying that he just confessed to killing his sister (Brittany Richards) and her boyfriend (Ross Escalante).
Police Responded Immediately
Law enforcement made contact with Blake Richards in the parking lot of Target in Wylie, after being detained they found a loaded rifle in his vehicle. They quickly moved the investigation to the house in Plano where Blake lived with his sister and her boyfriend, law enforcement found both Brittany and Ross deceased in the dining room from gunshot wounds. After finding the bodies, law enforcement also found an empty handgun, a bullet proof vest, drug paraphernalia, and books regarding setting booby traps and sniper training.
The Siblings Had Been Fighting for Weeks
Prior to the murders the siblings Blake and Brittany had been arguing over a life insurance policy that was being paid out after their mother passed away. Law enforcement in Collin County believe that money is why Brittany Richards and Ross Escalante were murdered.
A jury found Blake Richards guilty of Capital Murder. He will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
