Josh Garcia of Midland is the owner of what could be one hell of a fish story. This past weekend, Garcia possibly broke a record that has stood since 1965 by catching a record 47 pound channel catfish on Lake Tawakoni according to fox4news.com.

The previous record for a caught channel catfish was 36.5 pounds by Joe Cockrell on the Pedernales River March 7 of 1965.

Of course some tests must be done first to make this record official. DNA from the catfish have been sent to biologists for confirmation that the fish is a channel catfish.

The catfish was caught while on a guided fishing trip by Michael and Teri Littlejohn's Lake Tawakoni Guide Service. Their guide, Noel Ibarra, told Fox 4 News, "We have the new pending lake and state channel cat record right here."

After the the fish was weighed, it was returned to the lake. Maybe by the stroke of astronomical luck someone could catch this monster again.

Happy fishing, folks.
