Before reading all the details in the cases described below remember all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. While I hate to share such alarming details it is still very important for all of us to stay aware of what is going on in our community. We picked up the details from KETK regarding a man out of Henderson, Texas who is waiting for his trial to begin on a rape case in Gregg County is now accused of another rape this one is supposed to have taken place in Smith County, Texas. 

The suspect is Morgan Cates as previously mentioned he lives in Henderson, Texas and was arrested in Gregg County on December 9th of 2021 after being charged with sexual assault. The incident that took place in Smith County was in January and the victim in the case went to police one day after the incident took place. The victim in the case told police she was previously in a relationship with Cates but that she had decided to end the relationship.

The Victim in Smith County, Texas Thought She Might Be Killed 

During the attack that took place in Smith County the female victim in the case said that she “started to believe he was going to kill her and she feared for her life”. During the same altercation the victim stated that Cates said, “Don’t say anything to the cops, be careful what you say to the cops, anything you say can be used against me right now.” 

Morgan Cates Is Currently In Police Custody 

Looking at the jail rosters for both Smith and Gregg Counties I found that Cates was arrested for Public Intoxication in Smith County in 2016. He was arrested again for Possession of a Controlled Substance by Kilgore Police in 2019. Arrested for the initial Sexual Assault charge in December of 2021, and he is now behind bars in Smith County for Sexual Assault. His next court date is scheduled for June 10th, 2022 in Gregg County, Texas.
