A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the announcement of the Sega Genesis Mini plug and play system that is coming out in September. It looked to be a great system with lots of features and a true retro gaming experience for Sega fans of the 90's like myself.

There was an initial announcement of ten of the forty games that will be available on the system. And they are fantastic games:

  • Ecco The Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Toe Jam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

Yeah, pretty awesome.

Well, this morning we got news of ten more of the games that will be available when you pick up the Sega Genesis Mini. And, holy crap, the awesomeness continues with the game selection:

  • Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi III
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker

Wow!

So here's what's surprising about some of these games on this list. We'll have two Disney licensed games. Usually for things like this, companies wouldn't even consider bringing back a licensed property like this out of sheer cost alone. That's pretty awesome.

Earthworm Jim, and it's sequel, Earthworm Jim 2, were fantastic games. There has been a couple of announcements of the game's revival for modern consoles but those plans feel through. The franchise has been pretty much dormant other than that. It's good to see the license come back to be a part of this system.

It's nice to see a lot of third party games coming to this plug and play. Makes a gamer like me excited for what the other twenty games could be.

The Sega Genesis Mini will debut in the U.S. September 19 for $79.99. It will come with the system, two of the three button controllers (sorry, no six button controllers, which is a small disappointment) and forty games preloaded.

You can preorder the system through Walmart, Amazon, Gamestop and Best Buy. And yes, I have preordered mine. It'll certainly look great next to my other mini systems.
