Texas Man Sentenced After Admitting He Lied to FBI Agents
A Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for lying to the FBI. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, a Hunt County man will be spending 21 months in federal prison for giving false information. Edwards admitted possessing firearms during an FBI interview but later removed them before agents executed a search warrant, according to court documents.
65-year-old Carey Todd Edwards was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on June 11, 2026, by Senior United States District Judge Jane J. Boyle.
Why FBI Agents First Visited the Home
According to court documents, FBI agents first interviewed Edwards at his home in Quinlan, Texas on July 26, 2023, after receiving information about his activity online. While talking with law enforcement, Edwards admitted that he was a convicted felon and acknowledged possessing a shotgun and pistol, both of which were inside his residence.

The Statements That Led to Federal Charges
FBI agents returned the next day with a federal search warrant, but no firearms were found within the residence. Agents conducted another interview during which Edwards denied ever having guns, telling agents, “I don’t have any. I never had any guns.” Although later Edwards admitted that statement was false and that he removed the firearms prior to agents executing the search warrant.

What the Court Considered During Sentencing
During the sentencing hearing, the court noted that Edwards operated a website promoting anti-Semitic beliefs and supported the separation of races. The court also observed Edwards’s online activity, combined with his criminal record and firearms ownership, could have been perceived as a threat toward the Jewish community in the Northern District of Texas.
Court records indicate Judge Boyle concluded the false statements were intended to obstruct the FBI investigation.
