I was recently scrolling the TikTok feed and I learned something new. Apparently, tortillas smuggling is a thing. The clip is from Caleb Hammer and his show about being financially stable for the next generation! We learned of a new side hustle in Texas and California.

The woman on the show states that she was paid $2,000 to smuggle tortillas across the Mexican border. She also goes into detail about the smuggling operation works and how it helped her through some tough times, financially. This is the first time I have ever heard of tortilla smuggling.

Bologna smuggling is a thing too.

Last year, almost 750 pounds of bologna was caught being smuggled at the border. Mexican bologna is a prohibited product because it is made from pork and has the potential for introducing foreign animal diseases to the U.S. pork industry.

Egg smuggling is also on the rise.

Fresh eggs, raw chicken, unprocessed avian products and live birds are prohibited from entering into the U.S. Eggs specifically are prohibited due to health concerns regarding highly pathogenic Avian Influenza or bird flu.
