No passwords have been compromised says Twitter, but they are urging all users to update password immediately.

An internal bug has been discovered within Twitter that has exposed, in plain text, the passwords of a significant amount of users in an internal log. According to an internal investigation from Twitter, they report no evidence that a breach or misuse of displayed passwords occurred and are recommending all users to change their passwords out of "an abundance of caution". If you use third party apps to allow access to Twitter, such as TweetDeck or Twitterriffic, those passwords should be changed as well.

According to Twitter, an error occurred in their system that masks user passwords, but due to a system-wide error, passwords were exposed in plain text in an internal log. Twitter also stated:

We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone. As a precaustion, consider changing your password on all services where you've used this password.

The total number of affected accounts that have potentially been compromised has not been released.

According to CNBC, the next time you log in to your Twitter account, you should be greeted with a splash page that will redirect you to the screen where you can reset your password.
