While I cannot say for certain, I believe this to be the largest amount of bologna ever seized in Texas. According to KVUE, there was a woman that was caught attempting to smuggle a large amount of prescription drugs in bologna.

The incident took place on Monday, September 23rd at the Presidio port of entry, it’s located about 100 miles west of Big Bend National Park. A 43-year-old woman was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, but her name was not released.

What Happened During the Inspection

When first questioned by officials the woman admitting to having a cooked meal in the vehicle. After a brief inspection of her bag, officials noticed that the bags were heavier than normal.

At that point all bags were removed from the vehicle and inspected further which showed that the woman was carrying 40 rolls of Mexican bologna, weighing a total of 748 pounds.

Drugs Were Also Found During the Search

Beyond just the bologna officials found 280 boxes of prescription medication including Tramadol, Alprazolam, Clonazapam, and Diazapam. The woman also had $7,600 in cash hidden in her vehicle.

Consequences For All of This?

In the end the woman was given a $1,000 citation for not declaring the items that she was bringing into the country. But the consequences didn’t end there because all of the bologna was then destroyed by Border Patrol agents.

Let this be a lesson for everyone, don’t think that you will be able to smuggle things into the U.S. these border patrol agents are very good and finding anything that might be hiding.
