Central, Latexo Among East Texas Teams in State Softball Rankings
The Texas High School UIL Playoffs are almost here and many East Texas area teams will be in the hunt for bi-district championships over the next several days. The ultimate goal is to make the state tournament on the campus of the University of Texas in June.
Several teams from the Pineywoods are getting recognition in the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Rankings.
Class 3A
The Central Lady Dawgs (25-4-1) are district champs, and they haven't dropped a game since late February. Central is ranked 11th in Class 3A.
Class 2A/1A
Several East Texas schools are in the top 25 of the combined Class 2A/1A poll.
The Latexo Lady Tigers who are the champions of District 25-A are ranked #5 in the state. They have an overall record of 25-4-2.
The softball teams from Woden and Colmesneil will both be in the playoffs representing District 23. The Lady Eagles of Woden (pictured below) are ranked 20th in the latest poll, while the Lady Dogs come in at number 22. (Sorry, couldn't find a team photo for Colmesneil)
There are a few other teams on the fringe of Deep East Texas who are also getting state recognition.
In Class 4A, the Bullard Lady Panthers are ranked #1 in the state. They are in the same district as Hudson and Rusk.
Meanwhile, in Class 3A, West Rusk (based in New London, Texas) is ranked 3rd in the state. They are one of the very teams through all classifications that have yet to lose a softball game.
Congratulations to all these teams, and good luck in the upcoming playoffs.
