I’m Celebrating Two Years Smoke Free!
Two years ago, on this very day, January 28, I smoked my last cigarette. It was the best decision of my life. So, how's it going after two years? For the most part, pretty damn good. There has been a couple of hiccups but nothing to make me start again.
Over the last two years, a day hasn't gone by that I haven't had a craving for a cigarette. It's nothing overwhelming, though. It comes, I think about it, and it passes.
Having said that, I have had a couple of hiccups in the last year. In June, I had to put Buddy, my 16 year old black lab, down, I smoked a cigarette with my friend Lisa outside the vet's office. I think we can give that one a pass. I was a mess.
In November, I was at a friend's wedding and took a puff of my girlfriend's smoke and about chocked to death. Yeah, the smoking life is not for me anymore and I'm so glad.
I still get to the gym on a somewhat regular basis which I think has helped my lungs recover a little bit. It still amazes me that I didn't use any stop smoking aides or start vaping. It was good to quit but not put another bad habit in it's place.
If you're thinking about quitting, you've made the first step. Don't get discouraged, either, if you've quit and picked them up again. I've done it myself but this time it's been permanent. I'm sure the cravings will continue but I will continue ignoring them.
And no, I haven't turned into one of those that fake coughs or gives dirty looks to a smoker near me. I enjoyed smoking and I know you do. I still like the smell of smoke, too. So if I stand beside you and sniff, I'm not being weird, just taking in the smell.
Fell free to reach out to me through my email, email@example.com, if you need some encouragement if you are wanting to stop or have stopped smoking. I'll be more than happy to help you.
