It seems as if the mass migration is on across the United States. People are leaving California in droves and heading to Texas, but it's not just California, people from the northeast and Florida are picking up and moving to the Lone Star State as well. Thanks to the influx of new residents, cities like Tyler, Texas are growing at a good pace.

Being one of the fastest-growing cities in East Texas, Tyler's annual population has continued to grow and has ever since the city was incorporated in 1846. According to the US Census Bureau, the Rose City has seen double-digit growth over the past four decades and the Tyler Economic Development Council reports the Tyler Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population to be nearly 242,000 in 2023.

What's drawing so many people to the Rose City and the Piney Woods?

  • Educational institutions
  • Medical facilities
  • Industry and Manufacting sector
  • Retail and Restaurant options
  • Shorter Commute Time
  • Favorable Weather

With so much talk recently about Californians moving to Texas it's interesting to see a report that was created by Stacker that shows where people are moving from to call Tyler home. The list was created using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and shows which metros sent the most people to Tyler.

While it's perceived more Californians are coming to Texas, there's a reason why those in Tyler aren't seeing a huge spike in California license plates and that is because a big portion of those moving to Tyler are already Texas residents. A huge portion of the growth that the Tyler area is experiencing is because of other Texans.
