Juneteenth Is Here: Event Happenings in Tyler for Friday (6/19)
Friday, June 19th is Juneteenth in America! Happy Juneteenth!
The city of Tyler is celebrating this day of Black independence by hosting two meaningful events on Friday and one on Saturday, as shared by the Tyler Telegraph.
Everyone will start meeting up at the Plaza Tower (110 N College Ave) around 9:45 a.m. for a Juneteenth Heritage Walk. This event is hosted by the Texas African-American Museum. The walk begins at 10 a.m.
Later, at 7 p.m. on Juneteenth Friday night at The Square (100 N. Broadway Ave), there will be a tealight "Vigil for Lynching Victims" to remember the 92 victims who have been lynched in Smith County. This event is hosted by the Tyler Justice and Reconciliation.
I am sure there will be some cool local t-shirts available around town to show your honor and respect for Juneteenth. I also saw this cool t-shirt on Amazon.com on the Juneteenth Melanin Co. page.
On Saturday, June 20th, an NAACP branch will be hosting a "Juneteenth Movie Night Watch Party" for the movie, Just Mercy, starring Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan. Click here to join the watch party at 7 p.m.
The Juneteenth Association of Tyler will also be hosting a drive-thru barbeque at 12 p.m.! Click here for details.
