Lego Sculpture Exhibit Coming to Tyler

Creating LEGO buildings and cities is fun, but did you know for some it's art? Nathan Sawaya proves it in The Art of the Brick® coming to the Tyler Museum of Art July 10.

More than 20 large-scale sculptures built entirely out of LEGOs will be featured through September 13, on campus at Tyler Junior College.

“The inspiration for hosting this exhibition came from Mary John Spence, one of the most giving and compassionate patrons of the arts Tyler has ever seen,” TMA Executive Director Chris Leahy told Jon Perry, Communications Coordinator for Tyler Museum of Art. “Mary John was an original Trustee of the Museum when we started in 1971, and her primary focus always has been what is central to our vision: improving the lives of the children in our community. With that in mind, she generously is partnering with us as Presenting Sponsor for The Art of the Brick.”

Special events scheduled in connection with this exhibit include guided tours on 'Free First Fridays,' Aug. 7, and Setp. 4. Summer Camps related to 'The Art of the Brick' are Movie Magic with LEGO® MOC-Up (ages 6-8), 9 a.m.-noon July 6-10; Mythology with LEGO® Brickology (ages 6-8), 9 a.m.-noon July 20-24; Mythology with LEGO® Brickology (ages 9-12), 9 a.m.-noon July 27-31.
