Miranda Lambert's ACM Awards tally jumps to 34 thanks to a brand-new honor recently bestowed on the country superstar. Lambert and "The House that Built Me" songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin are the first recipients of the ACM Song of the Decade Award.

Lambert, Douglas and Shamblin received the Song of the Decade honor, a press release reports, during a surprise backstage presentation at the 2019 ACM Honors event, held in late August. The award "recognizes a song that has impacted country music over the decade," according to the release, taking into account "success at radio, commercial media, sales and streaming, creative integrity, artistic merit and ACM Award recognition."

“The Special Awards committee convened multiple times, put aside their professional interests and were diligent in considering the fullness of country music in arriving at these honors. This is not, however, the Academy of Country Music deciding who or what should be honored. This is simply our recognition of self-evident truth. "The House That Built Me" is the Song of the Decade in country music. It is a monument unto itself,” says Academy of Country Music Vice President and ACM Special Awards Committee Co-Chairman Chuck Aly.

Following its release in 2010, "The House That Built Me" was Lambert's first No. 1 song, and remains the fastest-rising single of her career. The double-platinum-certified track won Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year at the ACM Awards, as well as Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year at the CMAs and Best Female Country Vocal Performance at the Grammys.

The Secret History of Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me"

Song of the Decade is one of seven newly instated ACM awards, all of which are decade-specific and will only be given out every 10 years. In addition to Song of the Decade, Album of the Decade, Artist-Songwriter of the Decade, Breakout Artist of the Decade, Single of the Decade, Songwriter of the Decade and Music Event of the Decade have been added to the ACM's awards lineup. The winners of those trophies will be announced at a later date.

The ACM's new "of the Decade" honors join the ACM's Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award, which was presented to Jason Aldean at the 2019 ACM Awards in April. That honor has been around since 1969, making Aldean the sixth person to receive it.

Lambert's 34 ACM trophies make her the most-award artist in the Academy of Country Music's history. Also at the 2019 ACM Honors, she received the Gene Weed Milestone Award.
