NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Just two days before the South Carolina primary, Rick Perry is dropping out of the race and endorsing Newt Gingrich. He says Gingrich "is not perfect," but adds, "who among us is?" He says Gingrich is a "conservative visionary" who is best suited to replace Barack Obama. Gingrich has been trying to unite conservatives around his candidacy in advance of Saturday's primary. He's urging Perry's supporters to take a look at his record.

One Dies in Smith County Wreck

TYLER The Department of Public safety is reporting a major accident occurred in Smith County last night around 9:15 p.m. One person died in the one vehicle accident and two people are hospitalized. The fatal wreck occurred off Pine Trails Drive off FM 2661 in Smith County. DPS is expected to release more details later today.

Service Planned for Tyler Evangelist

TYLER – A memorial service is planned for Tyler Based evangelist Reverend R. W. Schambach who is being remembered around the world for his more than 60 years of preaching the gospel. According to the Schambach ministries website, Rev. Schambach died Tuesday of heart failure at the age of 85. The memorial service will be held in Feb. 3 in Tyler at the Rose Heights Church. Rev. Schambach was known for his massive tent revivals and his radio and T.V. broadcast, Power Today, and Voice of Power.

 

News Corp., Hacking Victims Reach Agreement

LONDON (AP) — Rupert Murdoch's media company has agreed to pay damages to 36 high-profile victims of tabloid phone-hacking. Actor Jude Law, soccer player Ashley Cole and former British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott are among dozens of people suing News Group Newspapers after their cell phone voicemails were allegedly hacked by the now-shuttered News of the World tabloid.

 

Mitt Romney Under Fire

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is facing increased criticism after revealing that he pays federal taxes at a rate of about 15 percent - less than most Americans. Rival New Gingrich slapped at Romney, saying he himself paid income taxes at a 31 percent rate in 2010, more than twice what Romney says he paid.

(AP) — The five Republicans seeking their party's presidential nomination are getting ready for the last televised debate before Saturday's South Carolina primary. Tonight's two-hour debate is sponsored by CNN and the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

 

Even Faster Mobile Devices?

GENEVA (AP) — Experts say the next generation of mobile technology will make devices 500 times faster than 3G smartphones. A United Nations telecom meeting has approved the technology which needs less bandwidth because it uses radio-frequency spectrum much more efficiently. Officials say it could take up to two years to show up in consumer devices.
