Saturday Night’s ‘Snow Moon’ Was Breathtaking In Downtown Tyler
I hope you had the chance to stand outside last night and gaze at the sky. Because WOW.
Usually, I stay on top of the news and look forward to the upcoming cosmic goings-on in our sky. However, it was a particularly busy week. But you know what? I'm kind of grateful for that.
Last night, we went over the Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler to see 'Casablanca,' which was a delightful experience all it's own. But then, as we left and walked down to one of Tyler's downtown eateries, Black Pearl, we were in awe. Although past 9 p.m., the sky was so bright it seemed much earlier. Plus, the scattered clouds were moving quickly over the bright, welcoming moon as it cast shadows on the sidewalk. Stunning.
That's when I realized it was the February 'Snow Moon.' It was glorious. That was only the glorious beginning though. It wouldn't shine at its most brilliant until 2:33 a.m. I wasn't awake for that, but it was still gorgeous enough that I stood and stared at the sky for a good, long while.
CNN reports that, "according to the Farmers' Almanac, northeastern Native American tribes referred to the second full moon of winter as the Snow Moon because of February's heavy snow."
Thankfully, though, our weather was quite mild.
I hope you got to see it. If you took any photos, we'd love to see them. You can send them to us via the mobile apps.
