The Tyler Library invites the public to take part in its annual Summer Reading Club from beginning today. This program is open to participants of all ages, preschool through adult.

The Library kicks off the Summer Reading Club with a come and go party today, June 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. for children ages 3 to 12. Children will be able to create a champion reader medal, participate in fun games and register for their online summer reading club account.

Children and teens are challenged to read a total of 12 hours. This can be accomplished by reading 20 minutes a day, five days a week over the course of the eight week reading club. Time can be reported using the online reading log at This interactive website also offers games, videos, quests, badges and reading lists. Children and teens who complete the program will receive a free book and be entered in a special prize drawing.

Adults are asked to read eight books and write eight reviews over the course of the eight weeks of Summer Reading Club. Upon registration for the program, adults will receive a special tote bag. After completion of the program, participants will receive a gift card to one of Tyler’s local businesses, while supplies last.

Those who wish to participate, but do not have internet access, can use the Library’s computers on the first floor to log reading time or book reviews. Paper logs will be provided to adults completing book reviews upon request.

During this eight week program, the Library will also be offering hands-on learning opportunities with the YMCA, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Caldwell Zoo. Other activities include LEGO builds, story times, movies and with special guest performances from the KornPop the Clown, Margaret Clowder as the Bookworm, Tyler Kung Fu and Fitness, Drama with a Point, and Therapet.
