Drone food delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth is expanding, giving some customers the option to have restaurant meals flown directly to their homes. Companies including DoorDash, Wing and Flytrex are already operating in parts of the Metroplex, while new rooftop drone docks are being installed. But would you actually trust a drone with your dinner?

There is no doubt that technology is changing a lot here in Texas. Recently we learned more about air taxis that are in progress although no humans will be part of the testing at least for now. And just earlier this week we discovered that more than 100 Dallas restaurants are about to start flying to deliver food to customers.

First Question: Is My Burrito Going to Survive?

There are definitely some pros and cons to this as I see it. First, I would be a little nervous as you probably don't want your food to be lowered by tether anywhere. But maybe the technology is more sophisticated than I thought. Also, how far would the drop be from these drones that are delivering the food. I would prefer not to have a burrito drop 6 feet before I get to enjoy it.

Could Drone Delivery Mean Less Work for Drivers?

Lastly, a coworker brought up the fact that so many delivery drivers would see less work. That is something I didn't think about but it's a good point. Many people have turned to driving for Door Dash or Uber Eats as a side hustle, I would hate to see this new technology take that away.

There Are Some Pretty Big Advantages

On the flip side, I do like the idea of having food delivered and not having to do anything except retrieve it from within my property. The drones would probably be faster than most delivery services as they wouldn't be dealing with any traffic issues. And there would be less wait time so the food could be hotter when it arrives at my house.

Would you trust a drone to bring you dinner? Is this something you are for or against. Let me know by sending me an email at billy.jenkins@townsquaremedia.com.
