Whitehouse Native Declares for NFL Draft
Whitehouse native, Pat Mahomes II, and son of Lindale native and former Major League Baseball pitcher, Pat Mahomes, is closing out his college career to enter the 2017 NFL draft according to espn.com.
Mahomes leaves Texas Tech University as the number 3 passer in school history with 11,252 passing yards with a total (passing, rushing) of 115 touchdowns. Unfortunately, despite his great numbers, the Red Raiders defense was not good, giving up 44 points a game. Texas Tech was 5-6 this season.
Mahomes did set a college and Big 12 record in October of 2016 versus Oklahoma when he completed 52 of 88 passes and racked up 819 total yards. But even that was a loss, 66-59.
Mahomes is expected to be drafted in the 2nd round.
Good luck to Pat as he begins his work for the NFL Combine February 28 through March 6 then the NFL Draft April 27 through April 29.
