Asymptomatic People May Still Carry COVID-19. Please Stay Home.
The news world went wild after hearing a press conference last Wednesday with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp after he said "we didn't know that until the last 24 hours. This is a game-changer for us." The comments were made during his conference announcing the stricter "sheltering in place" orders now in place in the state of Georgia.
What caused the media frenzy? Because we've known since January that asymptomatic people may yet be infected with COVID-19. Furthermore, some of those infected who are asymptomatic may never show symptoms. That doesn't mean others can't be infected. It goes to show how challenging it is to communicate this to the national population, despite our 24 hour news cycle.
To be fair, others came to the Georgia Governor's defense saying he perhaps misspoke but he was aware of this information previously.
Now, the media were very hard on Governor Kemp. But, that doesn't do anyone any good. Instead we should focus on the truth that many people still don't realize that just because you're not sick doesn't mean you can't still infect others.
Just Sunday I was picking up an order from the quarantine of my vehicle. As I was driving through town, I noticed several store signs inviting people in because they were "keeping the store hygienically clean," or that "our employees are well." Knowing what we know now, having asymptomatic employees doesn't mean they're not infected. On top of that, we don't want employees to be infected by customers either.
I can 100% sympathize. We all want to do everything we can to continue to support our East Texas economy and our beloved business owners. Thankfully East Texans are incredibly resourceful and innovative and we CAN still support East Texas business, whether through to-go orders, gloved delivery with appropriate distance, ordering online, etc.
At the same time, we must take the precautionary measures strongly recommended by the medical experts who know how extremely contagious COVID-19 is. More on this story from FOX News here.
