Winter Storms Love Texas This Year; Projected Snow Totals

Texas is under the gun for the second time this January regarding winter weather.

The Texas Panhandle is used to getting snow and sleet, but the rest of Texas is a different story. The first round of wintery mix came January 9th - 11th for North Central Texas and the northern areas of East Texas.

The snow, sleet, and ice mixture that fell upon the metroplex snarled traffic, caused flight delays, and temporarily closed schools, but as quick as it came, it was gone just about as quickly.

A week and a half later, another part of Texas is being threatened by snowfall from another winter storm that will move across the central and southern parts of the state. This area rarely sees snow and according to the National Weather Service, some areas could see as much as 5 to 7 inches of the white powdery stuff.

Portions of Texas, Louisiana, and the entire Gulf Coast are under a Winter Storm Warning, while other portions are under Winter Weather Advisories.

The advisories and warnings for Texas are in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicts that portions of the I-10 corridor could see as much as 5 inches of snow.

The strange thing about this Texas winter storm is that the further south you go, the more snow is expected to fall in the Lone Star State, and then the farther east you go, the expected totals are even higher.

Both major airports in the Houston area will be closed on Tuesday as well as many school districts in the region.
