July 6, local organizers of the annual Oktoberfest in downtown Fredericksburg pulled the plug on the 2020 event. The decision was made because of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in Texas. Oktoberfest Manager Debbie Reeh told mysanantonio.com,

We certainly do not want to risk the safety and well-being of our Oktoberfest Chairs, Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance Board and Members, attendees, volunteers, and all involved with the production Oktoberfest. With COVID-19 spiking now, we felt it’s the right time to decide whether or not we cancel.

The annual event celebrates the German heritage of the hill country area which dates back to the early 1900's. Find out more about the heritage festival at visitfredericksburgtx.com.
