One of my favorite non-profits is The Pegasus Project. They operate out of Murchison, Texas from their beautiful ranch. And if you love horses and fun, generally-speaking, make plans to attend the Wings Over Pegasus Airshow this Saturday, April 16.

There's so much to love about horses. Even for those who aren't riders, most of us can appreciate the beauty and gracefulness of these noble animals. For those who are devoted “horse people,” they are intuitive, sensitive, and therapeutic companions. Australian poet Pam Brown said “horses lend us the wings we lack.” So, when they are mistreated, it is heartbreaking.

Thankfully, there is a group of caring people in East Texas whose mission is to give those wings back to the horses who have been abused or neglected. The Pegasus Project is a nonprofit group located on 95 beautiful acres near Ben Wheeler.

The founders, Allyson and Mike DeCanio, along with the entire Pegasus team, are committed to working alongside other organizations for animal welfare, responding to complaints about horse cruelty, investigating, and rescuing those horses who are in need.

The horses are then given rest and a sanctuary where they are loved back to health, retrained as needed, and made ready to find their forever homes.

Happily, they are achieving success in their mission. According to The Pegasus Project website, “nearly all of the horses [they] have rescued have been able to return to normal lives.”

Good news, indeed.

Also good news? After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, their largest fundraiser of the year, Wings Over Pegasus, is BACK and better than ever.

This year, the airshow will be bigger than ever. Wingsoverpegasus.com shares the following:

"Event gates open at 11am, airshow starts promptly at 1pm. Expect lots of traffic! Arrive early and bring a lawn chair. Scheduled to appear: Returning favorite Stephen Covington in the "Raptor,"  Kate Kyer in her Pitts S-2B, Jeremy Holt in the "Pegasus," the T-28 Trojan Phlyers & Racing Team, helicopters, skydivers and a flight line of many more airplanes!"

On top of that, enjoy the gourmet food trucks, bring the family and enjoy the Easter egg hunt, paint one of the Pegasus horses, enjoy games, face painting, Easter photos, and more.

For a full list of activities and FAQ's, visit their website.

And know that by attending and participating in this event, you are helping them continue their noble work of rescuing and rehabilitating these beautiful animals.

Not only can your help give horses back their wings, it can help them learn to fly again.

One Tyler, TX Man Wants Historic Brick Streets Torn Up, All of Tyler Reacts

I've always enjoyed them, it's fun to say "on the brick streets" on the radio. Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival is 25% cooler when it's on the brick streets of downtown Tyler as opposed to just downtown Tyler. On top of that it's something that helps set The Rose City apart from other towns.

But, I suppose if you live on them or have to drive down them daily it could get... umm.. bumpy? Look, I'm trying to stay neutral here, but it's hard to because I definitely have an opinion. How about we dive into what other folks had to say about the suggestion to tear them up.
