Register to Vote Local by Thursday’s Deadline
Local elections loom on May 4, and if you're not currently registered you until Thursday to do so.
Local elections in Smith County include contested seats in multiple cities. In Tyler, there are two contested seats for Tyler Independent School District and two more for Tyler City Council.
The three candidates seeking the District 3 seat on City Council are Shirley McKellar, Pamela Phoenix and Dalila Reynoso. This seat represents neighborhoods near Texas College and John Tyler High School, among others.
Tyler ISD district voters will choose a member for both the District 3 and District 6 seats for the board of trustees. Marc Loredo and Freeman D. Sterling are seeking the District 3 seat. Fritz Hager and Lisa McClure are seeking the District 6 seat.
Outside of Tyler, there are races in the city of Winona, Winona ISD, Chapel Hill ISD, and Bullard ISD. Local elections are nonpartisan. Early voting begins April 22.
Eligible voters in the county need to return a signed paper copy of a voter registration form to the Smith County Elections Office, 302 E. Ferguson St., in person or by mail.
The voter registration form is available at the Smith County elections office or online at VoteTexas.gov.
