We love our "steak" here in Texas as evidenced by almost every city in this state having at least one steakhouse it can call its own. As you already know, lots of celebrities are making the move from the West and East Coast to Texas and they are also bringing their "entrepreneurial" spirit with them with many opening up businesses. International music superstar Akon has teamed up with one of the NFL's all time greats to open up a new spot in Houston that folks are already raving about.

Rare Restaurant and Lounge is located at 4105 Washington Ave. in Houston and led by Chef Don Bowie.

According to Fox 26, Akon and Former Houston Texans Player Andre Johnson have joined together to open a brand-new steakhouse on Houston's Washington Avenue called "Rare". The 8,000 square-foot space is two levels and includes a patio, private dining, and a cigar room.

When Asked "Why He Chose Houston?" Akon says that the city for him has always been a vibrant area for minorities.

Akon is well known as a philanthropist who has used his own money to start up tons of businesses for minorities and this one is no different. One of the reasons he says he wanted to open up a spot in Houston is because it is one of the very first independent scenes for music, and he loves that the people have always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

Andre is happy to be bringing good food, good vibes & good music.

Since retiring from football, Johnson also has been involved with business efforts as well. Johnson and Akon are already partners in a restaurant in Atlanta as well. Both added that they wanted to provide an "upscale" experience for diners in the Houston area.

They are open 7 days a week, reservations are recommended.

Not only are reservations recommended, there's also a "dress code" which I like.  Check them out on IG and at their website at rarehtx.com. Hopefully the food is good so maybe one day they can make the "Best Damn Things I Ate" list soon.
