Tired of all the heat? Well, we are here to report the good news that the normal high is now under 90 degrees.

In all seriousness, it’s hot… very hot. Highs are expected to remain in the middle 90s through the weekend, and all of next week we’ll be in the 90s for highs. When you factor in the humidity, we’ve got heat index values in triple digits. As a result of all the heat and the dry conditions, numerous counties in East Texas remain under burn bans due to drought conditions.

But the normal high going under 90 degrees is (hopefully) the sign of the good and cooler things to come. The normal high right now in mid-September is 88 degrees. By the end of the month, it’s in the lower 80s. In early November, the normal high drops into the lower 70s. So there is some hope.

Now with all that being said, we also look at long-range outlooks. The long-range outlooks from the climate prediction center indicate that we have a good chance to see above-normal temperatures through October and into November.

Those long-range outlooks also give us a hint at some potential rain to come. According to those outlooks, there’s a good chance to see above-normal precipitation at the end of this month. With that being said, drought conditions are likely to continue and may even get worse. The high heat is not helping here, but hopefully, over the coming months with cooler temperatures, it will get better.
