When you commit a crime in Texas you will be held accountable, those words rang true again this week as a former teacher’s aide with Tyler ISD was sentenced for having improper relationships with students.

According to CBS 19, the sentencing came down on Tuesday, November 12th after JBraylon Dewayne Fears pleaded guilty to two counts of improper relationship with a student.

Two Charges Dropped in Tyler Teacher’s Aide Case

While Fears will be spending 18 years in prison there were two charges against him that were dismissed. Those charges included online solicitation of a minor and employing a child for a sexual performance. He was originally charged for those crimes when arrested on May 2nd.

Students Reported the Inappropriate Behavior to Other Teachers

Fears was employed as a paraprofessional at a Tyler ISD middle school and there were reports by students about him touching them and flirting with them at school. Students also reported that he persuaded them to send him photos through Snapchat.

The Teacher’s Aide Denied Everything, Then Admitted to the Behavior

When first questioned by police Fears denied the accusations. But after the text message conversations were shown to him, he admitted to engaging in the conversation and requesting the photos.

Fears had a relationship with a student at a different campus. He denied that relationship as well before more text messages contradicted his story.

A huge thank you to law enforcement for doing everything possible to keep our children safe. Also, a huge thank you to the students that were brave enough to speak up when this was taking place.
