Drought conditions are continuing to worsen here in East Texas. The latest outlook from the United States Drought Monitor shows much of East Texas in a severe drought, while everyone is at least abnormally dry.
Those in the severe drought include Smith, Henderson, Anderson, Upshur, Cass and even parts of Cherokee counties. Those in a moderate drought include all others in East Texas, with the exception of those in the Lufkin area.

Some rain is expected in the coming days, however overall the drought conditions are expected to persist, even get worse in some spots in the next few weeks. However, the outlook from the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that the drought conditions are expected to improve, and possibly even go away entirely. The one-month outlook for the month of January indicates East Texas has a good chance to see above-normal precipitation.
Hopefully, we get a good amount because we’re way behind this month. So far in the month of December, we’ve received .84 inches of rain. However, we normally receive 3.45 inches. So we have a long way to go.
